Who, Pray Tell, Borrowed Their Bling at the Van Cleef & Arpels Party?

Van Cleef & Arpels jewelers transformed the Hammerstein Ballroom into a “Parisian nightclub” at their Fashion Week kickoff party, “Une Journee A Paris,” last night. A pair of French poodles — one dyed fuchsia, the other attempting to drag its butt across the glossy black stage — nearly stole the show, but fascinated as we are by shiny objects, it was the attendees’ bling that drew our attention in the end. So who borrowed and who brought their own?

Lake Bell told us she brought her own — but she was kidding! (“No, no, no — they’re all borrowed. And I feel very lucky to be wearing them.”) Muffie Potter Aston claimed that a person can absolutely never have enough bling, but she will “never” wear anybody else’s. Luckily her “divine husband” recognized that her “strong hands and strong fingers … needed a big rock.” Zang Toi, who was standing with Ling? “I like to own my stuff.” Us too! As for the night’s performers, cute French band the Plastiscines, Van Cleef & Arpels outfitted them with gold pendants, which might have been why they didn’t seem to understand our questions about bling — they weren’t crusted in diamonds. But since they were gifts, the group did own them, at least. —Amy Odell

Sarah Michelle Gellar, Yigal Azrou and Tinsley Mortimer were there too. For more pictures and quotes, read Party Lines.
