Italian Designer Mila Schon Dies

Italian designer Mila Schon died today at the age of 92, just days before Milan planned to honor her 50th year in the fashion industry. The Croatian-born designer founded her fashion house in Milan in 1958 and began dressing high-society opera-going ladies. Though she adored Parisian couture, she shied away from opulent styles popular in Rome and Paris, creating pieces known for their geometric shapes and double-faced fabrics. “I created clothes like I wanted them — without lining, with the inside just like the outside; double-faced fabric gave me the idea of order and cleanliness,” Schon once said, according to Reuters. She eventually expanded to the U.S. and Far East. Her business is now run by the Brand Extension group.
