Unrest in the House of Emilio Pucci?

Matthew Williamson presented his last collection for Pucci in Milan yesterday. He’s leaving the house to focus on his own eponymous line — or at least, that was the widely reported reason for his departure until now. Imogen Fox over at the Guardian reports Pucci had started receiving criticism that it was starting to look like Williamson’s own line. Additionally, she’s heard, “Pucci bosses were unhappy with Williamson’s multitasking and travelling,” which were probably on the up as he expands his label (and prepares to open his first U.S. store here).

So maybe Pucci higher-ups chose fur designer Peter Dundas to replace Williamson because he’s “relatively unknown” and doesn’t have his own label to worry about. Of course, he’s also worked with prints at Roberto Cavalli, Emanuel Ungaro, and Christian Lacroix. But he’ll also be based in Florence, which Emilio Pucci’s daughter Laudomia has said is a very important part of the job.
