Viktor & Rolf Won’t Do a Runway Show for Paris Fashion Week (Updated)

Oh NO! WWD reports Viktor & Rolf won’t do a runway show during the upcoming Paris Fashion Week. But before you completely freak out and cry and throw staplers: A spokesman said designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren will present a spring 2009 collection, but “off calendar.” According to WWD, “The format has yet to be revealed.” So perhaps we’re in for something even better than a runway show? Like Viktor & Rolf’s recent retrospective, for which all the clothes were displayed on two-foot-high dolls? Whatever they’ve got planned, it ought to be fun. And it doesn’t sound like this is a result of the recent acquisition of the fashion house by Only the Brave SLR, the same company that owns Diesel. That company won’t take over production until the fall 2009 season.

Update: Viktor & Rolf has announced it will unveil its spring 2009 collection ONLINE. Three cheers! WWD reports:

The designers said the online showcase, starting Oct. 2, would depict “an actual show filmed in the Grand Salon of our virtual house.” They said the Web presentation at www.viktor-rolf.com would employ the latest technologies and allow for “guests” to access the backstage area, to see hair and makeup, and to pop in on the designers for fittings.

“It is a take on what a fashion show might be in the future,” the designers stated, noting their collection is titled “Funny Face.”

This. Is. Huge. Not only can we all pretend we’re at Paris Fashion Week from the comfort of our cubicles, but this kind of proves Cathy Horyn might have totally been on to something when she said runway shows aren’t necessary anymore because of the Internet.
