Heidi Klum Comes Under Fire for Halloween Costume

Heidi Klum probably thought she nailed the Hindu goddess Kali costume she wore to the Halloween party she hosted at 1Oak. She succeeded in turning herself Smurf blue and taking up as much space as possible, without, we imagine, knocking over other people’s drinks or becoming a giant nuisance in general because she’s Heidi Klum and therefore perfect. Also, she won Best Costume of the night. However, in today’s inevitable news, Heidi has come under fire for the outfit. Prominent Hindus were not amused by all that blue face paint. In a statement released yesterday, Hindu and Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed said, “Goddess Kali is not to be used in clubs for publicity stunts or thrown around loosely for dramatic effects,” according to British Vogue. Jawahar L. Khurana of Hindu Alliance of India echoed those sentiments, and Bhavna Shinde of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti labeled Klum’s costume “denigrating.” Heidi told reporters at the party the costume was her assistant’s idea. “My husband and I were in India last year, so she said, ‘Why don’t you do an Indian goddess? Like a scary Indian goddess?’ And I said, ‘Okay!’” Oh, it wasn’t her own stroke of genius? Innnnteresting. Hindu leaders are demanding an apology. Assistant?
