luxury will never die?

Condé Nast Launches New Style Magazine

Take that, recession! Same to you, Internet! Despite cutbacks in the U.S., Condé Nast is launching a new magazine in the U.K. You know, one of those things made of glossy paper and increasingly starved for ads these days. Doesn’t this news give you the warm fuzzies? The new biannual style magazine has been titled Love and will be helmed by Katie Grand, who Condé poached from Bauer Media’s Pop magazine. The first issue for March hits stands February 19. Grand is taking much of her Pop staff with her to Love and said it will focus on fashion and art. The managing director of Condé Nast in the U.K. calls Love “edgy” and “high-end.” Because if you’re bold enough to defy the economy, you may as well go big and thrust the $50,000 slip dresses Anna Wintour doesn’t want to use in our faces. Besides, no one buys anything in magazine spreads anyway, so does it really matter if the stuff costs $4,000 or $20,000? Sometimes it’s nice to just look at pictures and drool. We see Love as a sign of hope, a sign that luxury can survive.
