Bird’s New Williamsburg Outpost Opens

Jennifer Mankins is officially throwing open the doors to her third Brooklyn-based Bird boutique today, this time in Williamsburg. The newly renovated, meticulously stocked outpost is in the same industrial space that formerly housed the mini-chain’s holiday pop-up shop. The 2,500-square-foot store includes an expanded selection of menswear, home accents, jewelry, and beauty products — as well as monthly art installations — alongside women’s apparel from around 50 labels, like Tsumori Chisato, 3.1 phillip lim, Rachel Comey, and Steven Alan. Mankins also ventures into high-end designer territory at the new store, carrying Thakoon’s $1,400 white bandage dress and pieces from Yigal Azrouël. “People want things that make them feel really good,” she explains in this week’s issue of the magazine. “No one wants anything super-basic.” Like at the first two locations, many of the wares have an ecoconscious slant, like natually dyed organic-cotton totes by Bodkin and animal-friendly pumps from Stella McCartney. Swing by this month to view “Believe in Love,” an exhibit of wistful, dreamlike portraits from photographers Shaniqwa Jarvis and Ignacio Parodi, and to snap up one of Bird’s exclusive tanks by 3.1 phillip lim.
