You know how the world had no clue what Jason Wu did for a living until he started dressing Michelle Obama? Well, it turns out that his family was pretty clueless, too. “I have a really kooky family,” said Wu on April 14 at the premiere of Grey Gardens. “My dad has nine sisters and they’re always like, ‘Jason, why don’t you become a lawyer? Jason, why don’t you become a doctor?’ They all have their ideas.” Thanks to the dress, though, that’s changed. “Now it’s different,” he said. “Now they’re like, ‘Oh, I finally understand what you do.’”
And even though half of what he seems to do these days is answer endless questions about Michelle Obama, Wu admitted he hadn’t done his due diligence on Bo the dog. “To be honest with you, I don’t know much about dogs.” He hadn’t even done enough Internet research to comment on Bo’s homecoming outfit. “I didn’t see it!” he said. “I just saw a little picture of his face. He’s cute.” Wu’s date, Hilary Rhoda filled him in. “He wore a lei. It was very colorful, festive.” Wu formed a mental picture and grinned. “Oooh. Chic like the First Lady. I like that.”
