obama voyage

Michelle Obama Wore Moschino, Alaïa, and Etro in Europe

In our effort to document every piece of clothing Michelle Obama wore on her first official trip overseas — garments infinitely more important than the clothes she wears in this country — here is a recap of the outfits she wore over the weekend:

Saturday
• For a NATO spouses trip to Strasbourg’s Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral, MObama wore an Etro print top, Moschino white shirt, and Gunex black pants, with a tailored Alaïa jacket. Carla Bruni wore a Dior coat over a black top and pants, which we’re guessing are also Dior.

• Stepping off the plane in Prague, Michelle wore a Narciso Rodriguez black dress and her favorite black Alaïa cardigan.

Sunday
• Accompanying her husband to a speech in Prague, Michelle wore a Moschino top, the Alaïa cardigan again, a Michael Kors skirt, and her favorite Alaïa waist belt.

So Michelle has worn more non-American designers overseas than we’ve ever seen her wear at home. And she sure latched onto her Alaïa cardigan and belt. We’re glad to see her repeat pieces, since this is a recession, after all. And even though she would probably look stunning in heels, we commend her for not bending to pressure and for sticking to flats. Because it sends the message — despite what the world’s top designers would have us believe — that it’s okay for women to be comfortable in their shoes. And now that Michelle is back on U.S. soil, we’ll go back to only caring about what she wears as it relates to how much arm skin she exposes.
