Lily Cole Heads to Cannes, Adds Hyphen to Job Title

We’ve been missing sprightly Lily Cole on catwalks and in print ads for a little while now, but with the debut of a new TV spot and the Terry Gilliam–directed flick, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, we’re about to get more of the little ginger than we bargained for. Currently she’s scheduled to appear at the Cannes Film Festival to promote her turn in Heath Ledger’s last picture, and perhaps you’ve already seen the Rimmel of London ad that’s been floating around that disused box once known as “the television” in the corner of your room. Like the Kate Moss glitz-and-glam spot before it, it’s welcome, if a tad unsettling. Cole has an odd delivery and a voice that makes her seem a bit more like a CGI character than one would want (lost in the uncanny valley). Perhaps she’ll seem a tad more lifelike in the Jude Law–in-drag pic Rage (she plays a starlet called “Lettuce Leaf”), in The Imaginarium, or in the upcoming awkward-fest by first-time director Marilyn Manson, Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll (yikers!). Whatever she does and however well she does it, expect fashion followers and paparazzi to follow her every step away from mere modeldom and toward stardom. Hell, if Sienna Miller can make it, anyone can.

Lily Cole’s coming to Cannes! [Grazia]
