Newsstand sales of fashion magazines for the first half of 2009 were down across the board. Vogue fared the best with only a 2 percent decline, to an average of 378,167 copies a month (the March issue with Michelle Obama on the cover naturally saw a boost in sales from last year). In Style suffered a 20 percent decline from last year to an average of 629,333 issues a month, which is still a hefty figure. Elle’s sales were down 12 percent to an average of 291,578 a month. Marie Claire and Glamour’s sales each dipped 12 percent. Marie Claire sold an average of 254,863 copies a month while Glamour sold an average of 603,833 issues a month. Glamour’s cover girls from the first half of the year included Jennifer Connelly and Miley Cyrus from her pre-pole-dancing days. Memories!
