W Creative Director Dennis Freedman to Exit

W’s creative director Dennis Freedman will leave the title. Industry sources speculated that with Stefano Tonchi taking the helm of the magazine, Freedman would be one of the top staffers to leave. Freedman spent nearly two decades at W, and is credited with attracting photographers like Bruce Weber, Steven Klein, Paolo Roversi, Craig McDean, and Juergen Teller to shoot regularly award-nominated spreads. Freedman’s last day has not been announced.

Along with Freedman, senior contributing fashion editor Camilla Nickerson will leave W. She is reportedly returning to the warm, loving arms of Anna Wintour and Vogue, where she worked until she switched to W in 2005. Vogue and Nickerson would not comment on that appointment.

As for Tonchi, the Daily has heard he’ll begin his reign at W with a trip to Milan’s Furniture Fair. The Daily thinks this is so he can pick things out for his new office (W is moving), but perhaps he wants to find some neat chairs to write about or something.
