Pencey Ushers In Summer With Leopard Print and Laces

After spending three years as a buyer for Kitson, former stylist Christina Minasian honed a sense of what women want. “You learn what a customer’s needs are,” she says. “There are a million collections out there, so there has to be a reason why people like this one.” For Pencey, Minasian’s three-year-old label, one reason is the clothes’ easy versatility. “Nothing is perfect and nothing is too complicated,” she explains. “Everything can be worn with sneakers or platforms.”

Pencey’s summer collection hits stores this week, stocked with military jackets, worn-in denim, eyelet dresses, and wild prints inspired by the colors of Miami and music fests like Coachella and Bonnaroo. Minasian’s complementary secondary line, Sauce, offers classic T-shirts that she’s reworked into wearable pop art (a look she describes as “surf rock meets Tokyo”). Pencey is available at Barneys, Intermix, and Shopbop online. Click ahead to see more looks from the summer collection.
