Photos of Kate Moss Crouching Naked on the Sand Fail to Excite Rich People

On Friday, a contact sheet with a series of fourteen photographs of Kate Moss crouching on the sand in Marrakech went up for auction at Christie’s. Though they were estimated to fetch around $45,000, no one bid the reserve price, even though a guy from Christie’s called the photos a “safe investment,” and in 1997 a print from the series sold for more than $77,500. Maybe, rather than hemlines or manty sales, Kate Moss’s perceived monetary worth is fashion’s best indicator of economic health. [Amateur Photographer]
