Bergdorf Goodman Has a Bedbug-Prevention Plan in Place!

After Hollister, Abercrombie, and Victoria’s Secret stores in Manhattan fell victim to the bedbug plague, many other retailers refused to provide reassurance to the media and potential customers that their sweaters and panties were and would remain bedbug-free. But Bergdorf Goodman — one of the only stores that would say anything at all about the issue, which was that they were “currently in the process of formulating a plan” — has announced they have bedbug prevention in place! Praise! (Even though we can’t afford to shop there!) In addition to pest control at distribution centers, they’re having bedbug-detecting beagles, which are probably adorable in addition to extremely useful, patrol the store periodically.

“We haven’t had any reported cases of bed bugs, but we’ve decided to be on the safe side. It’s something our customers care about,” said Ginger Reeder, corporate spokeswoman for the Neiman Marcus Group, which operates Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

Yes it is something customers care deeply about. Because for some of this city’s residents, getting bedbugs has moved pretty high up there on their personal list of New York fears, and isn’t far behind falling into the subway tracks. The CFDA has said it wanted to help designers with bedbug concerns, but it’s unclear what — or if — they’ve done anything. But cute dogs are a good idea. Everyone likes those.
