Sally Singer Reveals T’s New Fashion Director, and She’s Not From Vogue

Sally Singer is finally putting together a staff over there at T. The former Vogue editor has named Michelle Sanders, most recently senior vice-president of accessories at Donna Karan, as the magazine’s new fashion director. (Former T fashion director Anne Christensen moved to Glamour after Singer nabbed the editor-in-chief spot everyone was pretty sure Christensen was going to get.) Sanders is an interesting (and arguably safer) choice, of course, seeing how she’s a bit of a fashion-media outsider.

Sanders has held top positions at Miu Miu and Juicy Couture, but first met Singer when they were working together at Vogue more than a decade ago. She spent six years as the title’s accessories director, and the duo remained close even after Saunders left the mag. Vogue senior market editor Meredith Melling Burke and contributing editor Tabitha Simmons were both on Singer’s rumored shortlist, but the Sanders hire ultimately avoids ruffling those sensitive Condé feathers.

Singer also appointed V’s Jacob Brown as features director, succeeding Armand Limnander, who decamped for Stefano Tonchi’s W. But fear not, gossipmongers: Singer has several more positions to fill at T. There’s still time for an old-fashioned, knock-out, drag-out fashion-media catfight.
