Toning Shoes May Not Actually Tone Your Legs

So-called “toning shoes,” those crazy-looking cross-trainers you see advertised all over the subway and that claim to make your leg muscles work harder than regular ol’ sneakers, may not actually be effective at all, NPR reports. The kicks claim to “sculpt your legs and reduce the girth of your backside” while you walk to and from the water cooler at the office or do whatever it is one does while wearing hot-pink catamarans as shoes, but two new studies found “no significant difference between any of the toning shoes and the standard running shoe.” So, uh, joke’s on you?
