Brad Is Leaving Rachel Zoe

You know people are getting pretty famous when they start speaking in a dialect of their own creation. Lady Gaga used to not sound the way she does now, for example. Though not nearly as famous as Gaga, Brad Goreski’s speech has followed a similar trajectory, his vowels morphing into things that don’t sound like themselves, bookended by h’s and w’s. His efforts (instincts?) culminated with a profile in the New York Times that heralded his style and how it matched his flamboyant accent. So obviously, now that he’s a Times headliner all his own, he can’t work under someone else for much longer — and he won’t, come October 1, when his job at Rachel Zoe Inc. officially ends.

The parting is amicable so far.

“I love Rachel and she’s taught me everything I know,” Goreski, 33, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “But there’s a point where either I do it now or I’ll never know what it’s like to spread my wings and soar.” Breaking the news to Zoe about a month ago was nothing short of “major.” “We couldn’t stop hugging and we couldn’t stop crying,” she says. “He did this with such class and elegance. And I get it. I just told him, ‘I’m here for you always.’”

Aw. While Taylor may have been her “blessed jewel” for a brief while, Brad clearly became much more than that to her.

“We have a relationship that’s not normal. I jump into bed with him and wake him up and we have these pow wows and he’s like, ‘Wow, I haven’t brushed my teeth,’” Zoe says. “I don’t want to hire somebody for the purpose of the show, we just got lucky. No one’s ever going to be Brad to me.”

Now it’s really time to have a child, not only to have someone around the house to eat chips when Rodger and Rachel are out, but also because Rodger has no one to have heart-to-hearts with about Rachel’s anti-baby-ness anymore. Poor guy.
