Fug Girls: Rebecca Romijn Grilled on Style at Cynthia Rowley Show

Fashion Week is only three days old, and we’ve already seen three celebrities quietly hanging out in the standing-room area: Mark Consuelos at Christian Siriano, Angie Everhart at Nicole Miller, and now model/TV personality Emme at Cynthia Rowley on Saturday morning. None complained; each just watched merrily from his or her perch, looking either tall and hot (the ladies) or tiny and hot (Mark). Are we on the cusp of a new trend in fashion? Is standing room the new black? We can’t wait until, suddenly, Anna Wintour takes in every show from the peanut gallery. Can you imagine a better way, short of suspending her from the ceiling on a dais, to symbolize her reputation as fashion’s reigning deity?

The standing-room trend obviously has a way to go before it takes hold, though, as the Rowley front row was as well-stocked with famous faces as any we’ve seen so far. Aisha Tyler, beautiful in snug jeans, a white shirt, and Alexis Bittar accessories, couldn’t quite recall whose top she was wearing. “I have no idea. I’d have to, like, reach around and yank down the back, and try and read it,” she laughed, mimicking the contortions. Aisha spent much of the pre-show chatting up Tracee Ellis Ross, after which both women whipped out their cell phones and seemed like they were getting each other’s digits. Girls’ night out? At the very least, we assume that Aisha immediately texted Tracee about how stoked she was to be seated next to dreamy Noted Fashion Photographer Nigel Barker. The show was chockablock with reality-show judges, as a matter of fact, because not only did Emme host the truly awkward plus-size dating show More To Love, but we also spied every single judge from Bravo’s Work of Art — except China Chow, which is sad, because she surely would have worn something spectacularly over-the-top. The Internet tells us that Cynthia Rowley is married to gallery-owner/panelist Bill Powers, which may explain the influx, and also squashes our fevered theories that Rowley might be developing a Bravo reality show. Hey, why not? Everyone else has a show.

A few seats down from Nigel, we spied basketballer Chris Bosh — fresh from Lacoste, along with his fiancée Adrienne Williams, and looking charmingly preppy in sorbet-green — as well as Alan Cumming, who proudly modeled Rowley’s adorable designer Band-Aids, one on each hand. Also in attendance: Katie Lee in scuffed, flat, brown ankle boots straight out of the Annie orphanage, CBS anchor Betty Nguyen, and Lauren Bush, who looked extra low-key in jeans, flats, and a T-shirt.

The big draw, though, was Rebecca Romijn, who so thrilled the photographers that they stopped her in front of the pit on her way in for an impromptu snapshot session. This created something of a bottleneck on our way inside, but everybody seemed cool with it once they saw the reason — which was also easy to do, since the already statuesque Romijn was impossible to miss in sexy, strappy, sky-high heels and a teased updo. She told reporters she came out to New York from Los Angeles for Tommy Hilfiger’s anniversary event tomorrow night, but wanted to stop by Rowley’s show because of their close friendship — which apparently involves annual summer badminton tournaments with Rowley and pal Hunter Hill (who Romijn reluctantly admitted may have won the last round). “I don’t do this very often anymore,” Romijn said with an excited grin, before copping to feeling a bit out of the fashion loop since having her twins. “I’m getting all these fashion questions, like, ‘Describe your sense of style,’ and it’s like, ‘Whatever is cleanest and closest to the bed,’” she told us. “Although, it slowly becomes more chic the further East I go.”

Her trip East meant that hubby Jerry O’Connell stayed home with their 20-month-old twins, which she said is because they try to have one parent around at all times: “We’re trying to raise semi-normal children,” she laughed. We asked how she’s handling the stress of having two mobile toddlers, especially once they realize that if they run in opposite directions, you can only chase one of them. “It continues to blow my mind,” she replied. “It’s so scary. I’m just afraid one of them might die at any second. Because one’s a real climber, she just wants to climb to the top of every tall piece of furniture. If there’s a ladder, she’ll climb it. They’re just so crazy. And they’re at that age where you can’t explain that they’re about to die.”

Romijn then fielded a question about who she thinks the hottest up-and-comer is — “Honestly? I think it’s Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes,” she said — before a long, graceful arm busted through the scrum and tapped her on the leg. We heard, “And what is your opinion of the actress Aisha Tyler? Please tell us more about her.” Sure enough, it was Tyler; Romijn was too busy laughing to answer the question, so we’ll do it for her: We’re pretty sure we want to join that girls’ night out.
