Between the sheer tops and deconstructed dresses that Victoria Bartlett sent down the runway at the VPL show this morning, there was a lot to see and see through. But what really had us gawking were the sculpted necklaces molded around the necks of models on the runway. The pieces were crafted by Brian Crumley, Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer, and Alyssa Norton, each of whom created different pieces for the show. Crumley and Genger/Mayer chose to work with plastic, blown glass and copper wire, giving the effect that their pieces were floating — or choking — the dainty models, a look which fits neatly with Bartlett’s theme for spring 2011: suspension. By the end of the show, we were still scratching our heads. But whatever they were, we like!
