designers do diffusion

Matthew Williamson Is Launching a Diffusion Line

British designer Matthew Williamson, who made little brush bristles look pretty at London Fashion Week this season, is launching a diffusion line! “Muse by Matthew Williamson” is the working title, and it’s set to launch for fall 2011. Better yet, it might even have clothes that people can afford, or at least only blow half their month’s rent on instead of half the year’s paycheck (the label’s current price points run between $625 for a peasant top and $8,000 for a cocktail dress). Williamson has done a mass-market line for the U.K. department store Debenhams, but this is his first time making more affordable pieces within his label.

The upcoming line is part of the designer’s new contract with Italian licensing company Mariella Burani Fashion Group, which was placed under government-backed bankruptcy protection earlier this year but has since recovered. No word yet on where MBFG will distribute the collection, but check back for updates.
