Calvin Klein’s Beach-Improvement Program

Calvin Klein’s spring 2011 CK presentation last week was a vision of minimalist-is-sexy perfection, as models with slicked-back hair and glowing skin lounged around the showroom in a tableau of concrete benches over a sand-covered floor. Designer Kevin Carrigan’s sleek black tanks (for women) and briefs (for men) were a vision of what next summer’s beaches could look like, in a perfect world. Trim, tailored jackets and slithery silk shirts put an edge on office-appropriate clothing, and CK’s famous denim was pale blue and stonewashed to velvety softness.

CK continued its prescient casting by featuring Wes Phillips, the breakout star of spring’s men’s shows whose bedroom eyes look like they would fit right into any one of the company’s legendary ad campaigns from the nineties. Best accessories: desert boots for guys, flat Greek sandals for women.
