Jason Wu Is Launching His First Bridal Collection

Jason Wu is doing a capsule collection of five bridal looks exclusively for net-a-porter.com, set to drop in January. This is a welcome but not hugely surprising direction for Wu, who often features bridal-inspired gowns in his ready-to-wear collections (most notably, Michelle Obama’s inauguration dress), and recently designed his new sister-in-law’s wedding dress as well as her bridesmaids’ gowns for his brother’s marriage in Taiwan a month ago. For now, the bridal collection is only a one-year deal with Net-a-Porter, and a spokeswoman for Wu said that he has no plans to do wholesale, full-scale bridalwear beyond that.

As for the collection itself: of the two floor-length dresses, one is bias-cut with a sleeveless scoop-neck chiffon top, while the other has a deep V-neck and a skirt of cascading layered tulle ruffles. There are two above-the-knee dresses, one with a bow at the bosom and a feathered skirt and another with long sleeves and a bead embroidery below the waist. The fifth dress features a simple sleeveless top, a full skirt to the knee, and a black ribbon around the waist. Interestingly, there’s nothing strapless, which is the leading bridal trend right now. The dresses will range in price from $795 to $4,000, and you can see sketches of them here.
