New York City Cabdrivers Are Now Permitted to Wear ‘Tube Shirts’

Under old regulations, cabbies would face a $25 fine if they were caught wearing “tube shirts,” tank tops, or bathing trunks. But now the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission has issued a new dress code that simply requires drivers to “present a professional appearance.” Standards have been relaxed, according to the Times, in the hopes that people will actually adhere to the rules. “Proper dress is not something that we can enforce very easily,” said David Yassky, chairman of the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.
