One of the best parts of any Christian Dior or John Galliano show is the moment at the end when Galliano struts out to receive his applause and take a bow. What he wears for those moments is just as, if not more, interesting than the ready-to-wear and haute couture clothes and underpants he shows on his models. He discusses his personal fashions for these moments in The Wall Street Journal:
People always ask me about the clothes I wear on the runway. The attention should be on the collection—not my finale! I get so immersed in the world that I am creating that—like a method actor—I tune with the muse, the story and the collection so much so that I evolve into an homage to the world I have created.
These homages have included characters resembling George Washington, equestrians, and more often than not, pirates. See a recap of Galliano’s finale looks from over the past few seasons in the slideshow.
