This Rumor About Carine Roitfeld Being Fired From French Vogue Was Inevitable

An unnamed person tells Racked that LVMH chief Bernard Arnault found the last issue, featuring kids made up like models, to be in “poor taste” and threatened to pull all LVMH ads from the book. Roitfeld also allegedly — and she’s denied this repeatedly — took on consulting work, and in one poorly planned scheme borrowed Balenciaga’s pre-collection to send to her client Max Mara (which is why Balenciaga banned the French Vogue team — allegedly).

However, these are all unconfirmed rumors, and even though they just released canned statements, Condé bigwigs seem sincerely woeful that Carine is departing. Her connections and influence, not to mention the 45 percent increase the magazine saw in circulation under her tenure, are valuable. But the rumors seem to be gaining credence on the Internet, which loves this sort of thing and also has to feed many a blog in the slow news cycle leading up to Christmas. (StyleList used their blogging of this story to link back to a nude self-portrait of possible Carine replacement Virginie Mouzat, fashion editor of French paper Le Figaro — who knew?)

In other news, a “source” tells us Louboutins will rain from the sky tomorrow, circa 8 a.m. Another “person close to the situation” recommends sticking your laundry basket out your window for maximum loot retrieval with minimal cerebral impact.
