Cult of Individuality Brings Weathered Denim to the Limelight

Limelight Marketplace welcomes a newcomer this week with the opening of Cult of Individuality, a California-based denim brand peddling selvedge, twill, and stretch jeans. The space itself is impressive, set against the backdrop of the former church’s original stained-glass windows. Jeans hang from wall displays and shelves made of wood salvaged from an old barn in upstate New York. Designer Ron Poisson founded the line in spring 2009, starting with men’s shirts and jeans and specializing in a weathered, worn-in look, with frayed hems and distressed patches. With the debut of the Limelight shop, the company is introducing its women’s line, including skinny, boyfriend, bootcut, capri, jegging, and curvy styles. Prices range from $78 for distressed shorts to $185 for stiff Japanese selvedge denim. Click ahead for a look in the store.

Cult of Individuality, 47 W. 20th St., nr. Sixth Ave.; 212-226-7585.
