Online retailer Moda Operandi, founded last year by Vogue contributing editor Lauren Santo Domingo and former Gilt Groupe executive Aslaug Magnusdottir, is using its substantial new funding to reel in some bold-name personnel. Taylor Tomasi Hill, formerly the style and accessories director of Marie Claire (although arguably far better known for her street style stardom), joins the company this month as its artistic director; meanwhile, former Neiman Marcus executive Roopal Patel has been tapped as its fashion director. It’s unclear whether Tomasi Hill will also have to abandon her creative consultant role at Sigerson Morrison, which started in July.

Moda Operandi’s business has grown quite a bit since its founding, partially thanks to several hefty cash infusions as well as some mutual back-scratching from Vogue, who partnered with the site this past September with a click-to-buy arrangement from Vogue.com. The addition of Tomasi Hill and Patel, both of whom have cozy relationships with lots of designers, is expected to help the site expand its offerings. What’s more, the Times reports that site plans to make its visuals more “magazine-like,” which Tomasi Hill should be able to help with.
