Oscars fashion may have been spectacularly bland (save Jennifer Lopez’s half-nip slip), but imagine the potential if the sheer dresses on the Milan fall 2012 runways were shown earlier. At Blumarine, a long-sleeved white gown fit for a bride featured panels of iridescent sequins strategically placed across the bodice and hips, and Salvatore Ferragamo showed a gauzy black chiffon tea-length dress with abstract gold lamé appliqués. Finally, Peter Dundas at Emilio Pucci closed his show with a series of gowns that would (will?) be perfectly at home on a red carpet — one long see-through black dress with sparkly black diamonds in all the necessary places. Yes, they’ll probably be worn with sheer linings sewn in, but some starlet out there must be willing to take the risk.
