Hundreds Evacuated From Macy’s Due to Fire

A fire broke out in the basement of Macy’s in Herald Square this afternoon and quickly spread to the first floor. NBC reports that the FDNY received a 911 call around 3:30 p.m., at which point all customers were being evacuated. The flames were extinguished by 4 p.m., and employees have since returned to their posts. Customers will be allowed to return any moment.
