Seth Meyers Had His Doubts About Anna Wintour’s Sense of Humor

Not everyone thought that Seth Meyers’s jokes at the CFDA Awards were funny, but most agreed that his reprise of Marc Jacobs’s Met Ball outfit — complete with white boxers and buckle shoes — was quite clever. At the time, he credited Anna Wintour with the idea, and on Conan last night, he admitted that he was skeptical of her sense of humor at first.

It was funny because Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue — I agreed to host these fashion awards, and Anna Wintour said to me, ‘I have the funniest idea.’ And I had this moment where I was like, “Oh, DO you, Anna Wintour, have the FUNNIEST idea?” And she was like, [fakes a British accent] “Yes, you should wear Marc Jacobs’s Met outfit.’ And I was like, ‘Ohhh, that is a pretty good idea. You were right, Anna Wintour.’

Not only was she right and the outfit got lots of laughs, but Meyers claims the dress was quite nice to wear:

Seth: I will say, I pulled it on, and I was like, “Oh, this is going to be awful,” and I put it on, and I was like, “Oh, this is the nicest thing I’ve ever worn.” If there’s any other segment of my life when it’s cool to wear this outfit, I would wear this everywhere. I would wear it doing Weekend Update. It was so comfortable. It was so breezy! But I did wear two pairs of underpants. That was very important.
Conan: Yeah, you just want to be careful. You don’t want things bouncing around.
Seth: Yeah.
Conan: Well, you might. I don’t know.

Maybe that’ll be Anna Wintour’s idea for next year, hmm?
