Versace’s spring 2013 collection featured a live performance by Beth Ditto and intense knee-high stiletto cage boots. But some of the clothes themselves were quite delicate and muted, at least at the beginning of the show, with latte-colored lace panels and tissue-thin silk. Sure, the show later evolved into a noisy parade of rainbow-dyed caftans printed with Medusa heads and jazzy dresses trimmed with silver and gold fringe, but Donatella insisted that the overall aesthetic was “subtle,” repeating to WWD: “Subtle. Can you underline this?”
