Earlier this week the Swedish TV show Kalla Fakta broadcasted claims that H&M pays workers in its Cambodian factories only $61 a month. And while that’s currently the country’s minimum wage, the figure is said to represent less than 25 percent of a fair living wage. In response, H&M released a statement stating the brand “wants a permanent [salary] change, negotiated between workers and employers.” The company has already met with Cambodian officials to work towards raising the minimum wage, but labor activists continue to call for more action and hope to bring in trade unions to help negotiate.
