While visiting New York this week, Karl Lagerfeld plans to shoot the spring 2013 Chanel campaign. The ads will feature Chanel campaign veteran Stella Tennant as well as a new girl for the label, model Ondria Hardin, who is only 15 but already in her second full year of high-fashion work. Of choosing Hardin — a poised and striking model, for sure — Lagerfeld explained, “She doesn’t look 15. She looks 18 or 19.” Which is all well and good, but it might have been nice for him to pick a girl who looked 18 or 19 because, well, she’s actually 18 or 19. That way, Chanel could avoid a potentially sticky situation for all the Vogues out there. They’ve pledged not to shoot or feature models under 16, but will the rules get bent for an important advertiser’s campaign?
