Dark Florals: How to Wear Blossoms in Fall
Bad news for warm-weather floral enthusiasts: After analyzing the spring 2013 runways, there is almost nary a rosebud to be worn next season. Lucky for you, spring’s typically overused trend is seeing new life — for fall. Rei Kawakubo sent voluminous head-to-toe floral ensembles down the Fashion Week 2012 Comme des Garçons runway, and the pitch-black grounding on the fabrics looked rich, moody, and actually wearable for the cold. It also felt pretty nineties. Winona Ryder’s Lelaina may have danced around in Mulberry’s silk investment of a dress in Reality Bites (charged on her gas card, of course). While Angela Chase could have moped in Mango’s floral chiffon blouse with her father’s plaid tied around her waist. Easy to layer with a warm thermal sweater or an oversize coat, these pieces are gloriously grunge-ready. They also have the kind of sophistication that will even, dare we say, be appreciated next spring. Click ahead for fifteen new takes on floral.
