When makeup artist Walter Obal was prepping model Jourdan Dunn’s face for last night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, eyeglasses were not part of the equation. Then Dunn ran into nominee Justin Salguero of eyewear line Illesteva, who accessory-bombed her with a pair of black-rimmed spectacles to wear for the night.
For anyone who has lived the four-eyed life, you know eye makeup and glasses create conflict. Mascaraed lashes will leave behind smudge marks on the lenses with every blink, and then there’s the dust trail of stray eye shadow. But Obal had inadvertently prepared. Using Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes black eye pencil, he first lined the upper lid and then lightly smudged it out toward her temples. He also smudged liner toward her bottom lashes. “This is the perfect look when wearing glasses because you are strictly emphasizing the shape of the eye,” he said, while also noting that cream shadows are a great option for eyeglass wearers, “as opposed to blending a lot of color that will get lost behind the lens.” He curled her lashes and then amped them up with individual falsies; by fate, not a swipe of mascara was used. “This is something I always recommend when going to an event,” he suggests. “One less thing to touch up.”
