How to Dress Down a Ladylike Printed Skirt

Dries Van Noten and 3.1 Phillip Lim drew inspiration from the nineties for their spring runway shows, which featured models layered up in a mix of plaid and floral looks, finished off with a tousled head of hair and a pair of creepers. The new take on grunge is refined, similar to this outfit by Marie Claire’s Preetma Singh. A ladylike skirt, such as her Rochas version, is juxtaposed against black-and-white creepers by Underground. With its watercolor-inspired floral pattern, the bottom could feel overly fussy when paired with a set of heels; a flat, thick shoe is an unexpected option that adds heft to the look. She chose a band tee and an oversize grandpa cardigan to play up the riot-grrl influence, but the outfit would look equally as cool when worn with a sharp button-up or a fitted sweater. The key is to choose a thin-soled creeper, because a thick sole will make the look too retro.
