New Hampshire Legislator: ‘A Lot of People Like Being in Abusive Relationships’

Team Breezy has officially permeated an American legislature. A New Hampshire bill that would reduce charges for simple assaults involving “unprivileged physical contact” that “does not result in harm or injury” has been criticized for how it would impact the prosecution of domestic abuse cases. During a committee meeting about the Republican-backed bill, GOP Representative Mark Warden argued that “a lot of people like being in abusive relationships.” The Concord Monitor reports that the following comments were caught on video:

Some people could make the argument that a lot of people like being in abusive relationships. It’s a love-hate relationship. It’s very, very common for people to stick around with somebody they love who also abuses him or her. … Is the solution to those kind of dysfunctional relationships going to be more government, another law? I’d say no. People are always free to leave.

Then a female legislator explained that sometimes, being abused “didn’t dawn on them in the beginning. It wasn’t something they were expecting.” (Not joking, Representative Laura Pantelakos actually had to explain that very basic concept.) Somewhere, the New Hampshire matriarchy is frowning.
