Say what you will about Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg’s corporate-feminist self-help program, but its message appears to be inclusive, drawing support from the high and lowbrow, the right and left wing.
Earlier this week, Sandberg, a prominent Obama fund-raiser, tapped Mitt Romney’s former press secretary Andrea Saul to run the Lean In organization’s communications. According to Politico, Sandberg wrote (where else) on Facebook Tuesday night that Saul would “help reach women – and men – so that we can all work together towards a more equal world.” That night, former Cosmo editor and Hollywood Life founder Bonnie Fuller preached the gospel of Lean In at a panel hosted by the United Jewish Appeal Federation of New York Professional Women’s Philanthropy. She told WWD that criticism of Sandberg has been unfair. “I think that women often have a confidence issue. They think they’re not as perfect as they should be at their current job and they’re afraid to raise their hand,” she said. “At times, I’ve absolutely had to push myself to have the confidence to ask for a promotion or a raise.” Stay tuned for Amanda Bynes’s thoughts on the controversial manifesto.
