More Charges in Kate Middleton Topless-Photo Scandal

Kate Middleton’s pregnancy came to an end this week, but her legal entanglements are ongoing. Agence France-Presse reports that up to three new members of the French press have or will soon be charged for their roles in Closer magazine publishing photos of a topless Kate sunbathing in southern France last September. (More than ten months ago, so too early to coincide with the creation of George Alexander Louis.) Closer editor Laurence Pieau has been formally charged for violating France’s privacy laws; Us Weekly confirms Pieau was arrested earlier this month and will stand trial alongside Closer publisher Ernesto Mauri and photographer Valerie Suau, who were charged in April. Meanwhile, AFP reports that another unnamed photographer was charged in June, and that another is “under judicial inquiry” and may be charged soon.

Back in September, Middleton’s lawyer argued in a French court that the photos were a “grotesque breach of privacy.” At the time, Pieau said she had no regrets. “These photos are not in the least shocking,” she said, ignoring the hot-pink headline she slapped over the photographs, reading “Oh my God!”
