Oscar de la Renta on John Galliano and Huma Abedin

In his appearance on CBS This Morning, the 81-year-old fashion designer known for dressing First Ladies (except for Michelle Obama, a point he didn’t fail to bring to light) and polished women in politics (and not), chatted with Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell about his exhibition at the Clinton Presidential Library and his decision to give John Galliano a second chance. He even weighed in with his thoughts on Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin, who wed her philandering husband in an Oscar de la Renta gown.

On Galliano:

Well, Anna Wintour actually asked me if I would have John in my studio for three weeks and I said, “Yes of course.” I have known John for 30 years. Over 35 years. He’s a very talented man. And who has not done at one point in their life something bad? John has had a lot of issues — health issues, abuse — but I like John. He’s a great guy and I was happy that I gave him that second chance and I hope that he will survive all of this because he is an extremely talented man.

Wise words from the octogenarian.
