Today the White House tweeted what might be the ultimate Mean Girls joke: A picture of first dog Bo in the Oval Office — a stupidly hopeful tennis ball in his mouth — with the caption, “Bo, stop trying to make fetch happen.” I vote “ultimate” because this tweet nods to the Internet’s tendency to explain everything (including the White House) in Mean Girls terms and GIFs, while remaining descriptive and literal enough for those who have never seen Mean Girls. And virtually everyone, even those who have not seen Mean Girls, likes pictures of dogs. Also, it’s way better than the Obama social-media team’s previous Mean Girls reference.
