Surveying the kits of backstage makeup artists, it seems 99 percent of people own the Shu Uemura eyelash curler. It’s the cult favorite, lauded for its ergonomic easy-grip handle and a smooth curve, which creates that lifted natural-lash arch. But not content to let that other one percent slip away, Shu Uemura has designed its new S Curve to be even better. People who don’t like the original curler usually complain about one thing: That it doesn’t fit their eye. These are usually doe-eyed people, who have that first-world problem of having unusually large eyes. The new S Curler addresses that problem by creating a tiny eyelash curler meant for the fantastically lash detail oriented. The lash band on the S curve is shorter, about a quarter of the original, designed to assist you in curling small portions of your lash line at a time, starting from the inner and moving to outer corner. The close fit means that in an OCD manner, you can perfectly curl small millimeter subsections of lash, obsessing over the perfect curl of each individual eyelash, long or short. If you really like to get in there with your lashes, HD style, and take joy in literally painting each hair, this curler is for you. The only con: The white pad on top of the curler’s top clamp, meant to press against the eye for comfort, tends to come off — though it’s easy to pop back on.
