Jessica Chastain Lands Her First Vogue Cover

It’s not a fantastic day for Condé Nast’s December covers. First, Lucky managed to do this to Kerry Washington — and now comes Vogue’s Annie Leibovitz-shot cover starring Jessica Chastain. I tend to love everything Chastain does, even if that meant sitting through The Tree of Life. She is regal, smart, talented, wise, beautiful … but man, I can’t get behind her in yellow.

The clashing elements of the red font, her lovely auburn locks, and the diaphanous yellow Theory by Olivier Theyskens dress result in a garish effect that hurts our eyes and makes our girl look a little jaundiced. It’s not her fault; yellow is a tough shade to pull off. So for reference, Vogue, here is a list of the only celebrities who should really wear the hue: Michelle Williams circa 2006, Solange, Solange, Solange. And, of course, Big Bird.
