Amid all those tall buildings, the short men of Manhattan must be feeling particularly low. According to data from 50,000 interactions compiled over a couple months by dating site Are You Interested, women in Manhattan contact men under five foot nine at a response rate of only 1.2 percent. (In Brooklyn, their odds are slightly better, with a 2.4 percent reponse rate.)
In Jersey City, though, men under five foot nine have a 7.6 percent response rate. A biological anthropologist at Columbia University, Jill Shapiro, told the New York Post that Jersey City’s high contact rate for short men goes “against the normal pattern for most humans.”
