Pre-Fall 2014 Continued: Givenchy, The Row, Acne, Ralph Lauren, and More

Givenchy continues to explore themes from its shocking spring collection — ankle-grazing hems, long leather gloves, and multiple sequin dresses with a drape that feels reminiscent of Studio 54. But the strongest piece was a spangled, sequined, pleated dress topped off with a gold sequin belt strapped high over a fur shawl.

Acne’s Jonny Johansson riffed on the “calmness of the cooling sea and the seasonal tints of the forest,” which explains the marine-blue-greens, sandy fawns, and rich dark browns, and the unusual shapes and weird silhouettes. We particularly loved the looks that hung languidly with long fur mittens, offset with shearling, boiled wool, and neoprene textures. Weird in a great way.

Leave it to the Row to continue its mission of creating simple, luxurious basics for the chic introvert. With long wrap skirts, oversize, crisp mackage coats, cocooning sweaters, and light wools rendered in Windsor plaid, the Row offers a compelling argument against glaring street-style fashion. Linda Rodin, that silver fox, totally shut it down in that black lambskin trench.

Speaking of silver, Ralph Lauren presented a short collection playing with textures all in silver and pewter tones. Fluid silver bias-cut charmeuse and chiffon, soft gray Italian suiting wool and jersey gathered and pleated at the waist, and dove gray sweaters accented with fox fur stoles all made for a shimmery collection.
