Apparently Kimye Kover Was Fancy-Fashion-Magazine Bidding War

How could a fancy fashion magazine like Vogue select a cover with famous people Kim Kardashian and Kanye West?, cried concerned snobs across the internet. What have fancy fashion magazines come to! Well, Women’s Wear Daily reports that, according to a chatty insider, more fancy fashion magazines were also vying for a Kim cover. Vanity Fair and Harper’s Bazaar were apparently also in initial stages to publish a Kim Kardashian cover, before Vogue ran Kimye for its April issue.

Bazaar reportedly wanted a Terry Richardson–shot spread and photograph of Kardashian for the cover. The source notes that Kardashian balked at the choice of photographer (though they have worked together before) and the implications that a close-up was favored because the then-pregnant celebrity was “overweight.” With Vanity Fair, the source says that the issue was a staff divided; reportedly, Graydon Carter once asked his staff to raise hands to show support for the Kim Kover.

Neither magazine confirmed or denied WWD’s reports, but (perhaps inspired by the Cut’s own “Conscious Uncoupling” matrix), Bazaar executive editor Laura Brown commented:

Kim and Kanye are the greatest example of conscious coupling. We wish them all the best.

Well, at least Bazaar and Vanity Fair avoided the adorable North West pee-gate.
