Keira Knightley’s newest film, Begin Again, is a musical tale about a skillful young musician and two music-oriented men (Adam Levine, Mark Ruffalo). At the movie’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere, Knightley confesses an ironic fact about the whole ordeal: “Do you know, the funny thing about my doing this film is that I’ve never really been into music?”

Knightley’s musical evolution was extremely fast but brief. She remembers “really loving” Nirvana. “That was like the one and only band that I had a real thing [for],” she told the Cut. “I was kind of into grunge when I was 8 or 9.”  There was also a brief dalliance with Rage Against the Machine (“on tape”), but that was pretty much it. Now there’s nothing really even left to sing in the shower.

But Knightley has developed tricks to fool music snobs, she says, “I’ve found that if you mention krautrock, or a couple of [musicians] you can mention, they think that you know about [music], but actually I don’t.” We all know who they are, don’t we? Those music-loving goons.
