George Will: Rape Victim Is a ‘Coveted Status’

Does the oft-cited Justice Department statistic that one in five women is sexually assaulted in college make the other four women so jealous they’ll make up rape charges and ruin young men’s lives? That’s the idea conservative columnist George Will sincerely put forth in his column on the “supposed campus epidemic of rape, a.k.a. ‘sexual assault’” in the Washington Post and the New York Post.

“[Colleges and universities] are learning that when they say campus victimizations are ubiquitous … and that when they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate.”

According to RAINN, the “privileges” of sexual assault include PTSD, substance abuse, self-harm, Stockholm syndrome, depression, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy, sleep and eating disorders.
