If you’re going to take lessons in refinement, look no further than Carolina Herrera. The designer held a Q&A session with this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, regaling them with tales of her mentor, Diana Vreeland. “I’m here doing all of this because of her. I went to her because I had this idea: I wanted to design materials, but she said, ‘Uck! Materials! What a bore! Why don’t you do something else?’” Herrera also talked about the L-word — “Luxury is getting something that you want but you really don’t need” — and about working with her daughters: “It’s fun! Sometimes we have disagreements, but usually, in the end, I am right.” Spoken like a true diva.
